Rep. Maloney Visits Dutchess To Discuss Bill On Drug Diversion Programs

Democratic Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney was in Dutchess County Monday, reintroducing his bill to combat the heroin and opioid epidemic by creating pre-booking drug diversion programs. The idea is to allow police officers to use their discretion to divert individuals directly to treatment instead of booking them and processing them through the criminal justice system. County Flags Lowered to HonorFormer Commissioner of Finance Rita Brannen

Poughkeepsie, NY… Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro has directed all Dutchess County Government facility flags to be lowered to half-staff following the death of former Dutchess County Commissioner of Finance Rita Brannen.

“Rita Brannen was a devoted public servant who served the residents of Dutchess County with dedication and professionalism. Her work as Commissioner of Finance helped modernize county government operations and her influence is still felt strongly today. We extend to her family and friends our heartfelt prayers. Rita will be greatly missed,” said County Executive Molinaro.

Rita Brannen served more than 34 years in Dutchess County Government. She began her county government career in 1971 as a Senior Account Clerk Typist at the Youth Board. She then worked her way up through the Finance Department and was named Commissioner of Finance in 1998. Ms. Brannen retired from Dutchess County Government in 2005.
Flags will remain at half-staff until interment.

County Executive Molinaro to Deliver 2015 State of the County Address

Poughkeepsie. . . Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro will deliver his annual State of the County Address tomorrow, Wednesday, February 25th at 5 p.m. inside the Ecolab Auditorium at the Marriott Pavilion on The Culinary Institute of America campus in the Town of Hyde Park.

The theme of this year’s State of the County Address is “Moving Dutchess Forward.” County Executive Molinaro will highlight a wide array of initiatives and programs for the coming year including infrastructure investments, drug abuse prevention and treatment, the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center project, business attraction and retention, among others.

Dutchess County Well Positioned for Property Tax Freeze Credit

Poughkeepsie, NY…“Dutchess County Government will deliver on the two key criteria necessary for Dutchess County property taxpayers to receive rebate checks through the two year tax relief program known as the Property Tax Freeze Credit,” Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro said today. For Dutchess County homeowners to receive the credit in 2015, Dutchess County Government’s 2015 county budget must remain within the New York State Property Tax cap. In the second year, Dutchess County must have a Government Efficiency Plan in place that saves one percent of the tax levy through cooperation agreements, shared services, mergers, and efficiencies, in order for homeowners to be eligible for the credit.

NEWS RELEASE: Dutchess County Announces Collaboration with DCSPCA for Rabies Clinics

Poughkeepsie…The Dutchess County Department of Health announced today its partnership with the Dutchess County Society for the Prevention and Cruelty of Animals to provide free rabies vaccinations for pets. The clinic will be offered on Saturday, October 18th at Dutchess County SPCA, 636 Violet Avenue, Hyde Park, NY 12538 from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon.  Dutchess County residents will be able to obtain rabies shots free of charge for their dogs, cats, and domestic ferrets 3 months of age and older. Non-residents will be charged $10 for each pet vaccinated.

2013 Year End Financial Report Shows Dutchess County Finances Stable

Poughkeepsie, NY… Dutchess County Government has submitted its 2013 year end audited financial report to the New York State Comptroller as required by law. The report, completed by independent auditing firm Drescher & Malecki, demonstrates the successful efforts undertaken by Dutchess County Government to control spending and maximize revenues. Dutchess County’s 2013 general fund revenues totaled $414 million and general fund expenses totaled $408 million for a year end surplus in $6 million in general fund.

Special Dedication Event to Follow Dutchess County Volunteer Fireman’s Association’s Annual Memorial Event this Sunday

Poughkeepsie… The Dutchess County Volunteer Fireman’s Association will host its 18th Annual Memorial Service on Sunday, October 5th at 12pm at the Dutchess County Emergency Response Center located at 392 Creek Road in the Town of Hyde Park. The annual service recognizes departed members of Dutchess County fire departments or EMS agencies who have passed away in the past year. Approximately 100 firefighters and EMS providers’ names will be read at this year’s memorial event.

Bicycle Traffic Skills Course Rescheduled to Oct. 17th & 18th

Poughkeepsie – Due to the inclement forecast for Saturday, the Bicycle Traffic Skills 101 safety course planned for this weekend has been rescheduled to Friday, October 17th and Saturday, October 18th.  The two-day course is designed to give bicyclists the confidence to ride safely and legally in traffic or on the trail and is being co-sponsored by the Poughkeepsie-Dutchess County Transportation Council (PDCTC) and New York Bicycling Coalition (NYBC).  Registration has been extended to October 15th.

County Tax Foreclosure Auction

Poughkeepsie, NY… The Dutchess County Department of Finance will hold the 2014 Real Property Tax Foreclosure Real Estate Auction on Wednesday, October 8 at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel. Approximately 150 properties with delinquencies from unpaid taxes levied in 2011 will be auctioned in order to return the properties to the tax rolls.

Transportation Council to Hold Bicycle Traffic Skills Course

Heritage Lecture Series Continues September 18th

Poughkeepsie, NY… The second presentation of the 2014 Dutchess Heritage Speaker Series will reveal the story of the Palatines, Dutchess County’s earliest German immigrants, and their exodus to the Mid-Hudson at the beginning of the eighteenth century. Professor Philip Otterness, author of Becoming German:  The 1709 Palatine Migration to New York, will trace the Palatine migration from the German Rhineland in 1709 through London and into the Hudson Valley between 1710 and 1712. The heritage lecture will take place on Thursday, September 18th, at 7:00 pm at the Historic Elmendorph Inn, located at 7562 Route 9 in Red Hook.

Mobile App Launched for Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Assistance

Poughkeepsie, NY… Dutchess County has launched a new mobile app, “Dutchess County HELPLINE”, designed to help recognize the warning signs of suicide and provide a wealth of mental health resources for information and assistance. The app is an extension of Dutchess County’s HELPLINE crisis telephone line where mental health professionals are available 24 hours a day, every day to provide support and assistance. The event announcing the new app was held on September 4 at Dutchess Community College’s Bowne Hall with many students in attendance. Young adults and teens are among the target audiences for the new resource.

Back to School Bus Safety and Driver Awareness

As children across the county head back to school next week, Dutchess County Sheriff Adrian “Butch” Anderson and County Executive Marcus Molinaro join with the Dutchess County Traffic Safety Board to remind motorists, parents and students to exercise caution and follow the rules for school bus safety. Drivers are urged to always use caution and drive carefully, but especially during the school year when students are coming and going from school buses and bus stops.

Culvert Replacement Work to Begin on North Quaker Hill Road in Pawling

Poughkeepsie…Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro has announced the Dutchess County Department of Public Works will begin work late week to replace a deficient culvert on North Quaker Hill Road (CR 68) in the Town of Pawling. Culver PA-03 allows a tributary of the Ten Mile River to pass under North Quaker Hill Road and has been found to structurally deficient. Work on the culvert, located approximately 1.5 miles north of the intersection of Old Quaker Hill Road (CR-66) and approximately one thousand feet west of the Connecticut border on North Quaker Hill Road, will close the road to through traffic at the work site while the project is underway.

Molinaro Provides Update on Dutchess County Justice Transition Center Project

Poughkeepsie, NY… Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro addressed the Dutchess County Criminal Justice Council this morning with planning status update on the Dutchess County Justice Transition Center project. The Dutchess County Justice Transition Center (DCJTC) will solve the County’s longtime, costly housing out of inmates. The DCJTC is envisioned as a transitional center campus that enables the County to provide various co-located services to support a strong continuum of service. It is expected to provide millions of dollars in short-term and long-term savings to the County, while providing the opportunity for the County to expand its nationally-recognized Alternative to Incarceration programs to better transition inmates back into the community and decrease recidivism.

The City of Beacon has a brand new website, thanks to a shared service partnership with Dutchess County Government. The new website, cityofbeacon.org is now online with a wide variety of helpful tools and information for both residents and visitors including public alerts, events calendars, service directories, and more.  The City of Beacon will maintain and update the website content, with Dutchess County Office of Central & Information Services (OCIS) providing hosting and maintenance support. The City of Beacon’s website is the first to be developed as part of Dutchess County’s new Information Technology (IT) shared services offerings.

Recycling Gets a Boost at Bowdoin and Wilcox Parks

Sales Tax on Residential Energy to End June 1st

Poughkeepsie, NY … On Monday, April 7th, the Dutchess County Legislature will adopt the necessary resolution to reinstate the local sales tax exemption on residential energy purchases effective June 1st, the earliest possible date allowed by New York State. Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro will sign the resolution when he receives it on Tuesday, April 8th  following legislative adoption.

NYSDOT to Install Flashing Beacon at Route 9G-Broadway/West Kerley Corners Road In Tivoli

New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) Commissioner Joan McDonald today announced that the Department will install a four-way overhead flashing beacon at Route 9G and Broadway/West Kerley Corners Road (Dutchess County Route 78) in the village of Tivoli, in an effort to improve safety at the intersection. Molinaro to Host Town Hall Forum in Wappinger this Thursday

Dutchess County Digs Out from Snow

Poughkeepsie… With as much as 20 inches of snow in the last 36 hours, Dutchess County residents are slowly digging out.   Dutchess County Department of Public Works highway crews have worked tirelessly to clear roadways and county roads are reported in good condition.   Dutchess County Public Transit LOOP Bus has resumed normal service, although delays are being experienced.

Update on Dutchess County Storm Response

Poughkeepsie… Snow is falling heavily throughout the region and Dutchess County remains under Winter Storm Warning until 10am Friday morning 2/14.    Snow accumulation predictions have been increased to 10 to 20 inches, with snow falling at rates of up 3 inches per hour at times.  The Dutchess County Emergency Operations Center is open and  monitoring storm conditions to coordinate resources as necessary.    County facilities and offices remain open, however the Inclement Weather Policy for county employees will be in effect from 12pm today (2/13) until 11am on Friday morning (2/14), so residents are encouraged to call in advance about specific services.

Molinaro Invites Residents to Discuss County Budget and Other Issues at Town Hall Forum in Dover

This Wednesday, October 2nd at 6:00pm, Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Heavy Rain Leads to Road Closures

Poughkeepsie… The morning’s heavy rains have resulted in some road closures in limited areas according to Dutchess County Emergency Response Coordinator Dana Smith.  A flood advisory has been extended until 3:30pm today, with the area expected to get a second band of rain this afternoon which may lead to more flooding.  Motorists are urged to use caution on roadways and are reminded not to drive through flood areas.

Additional $3.2 Million Needed to House Out Inmates and Pay Overtime Costs at Dutchess County Jail

Massive Dutchess Rail Trail Bridge to be Installed Over Next Several Days

Poughkeepsie… The Dutchess Rail Trail will get a big “lift” toward completion this weekend.  Dutchess County Department of Public Works Engineering Division, in conjunction with the New York State Department of Transportation, has announced the trusses and girders that will create the Dutchess Rail Trail bridge over New York State Route 55, Wappinger Creek and Old Manchester Road will be assembled and lifted into place over a five day period starting this Friday, July 26th.

Weight Restriction in Effect for Linden Avenue Bridge in Red Hook

Poughkeepsie The Dutchess County Department of Public Works has announced a vehicle weight limit restriction has been put in place on theLinden Avenue Bridge over the Saw Kill Creek in the Town of Red Hook, following a routine inspection. The allowable load has been reduced to a three ton maximum load. Buses and vehicles larger than passenger cars will not be permitted to use the bridge until further notice.

Dutchess County LOOP Bus System Extends Evening Service from Beacon to Poughkeepsie

Poughkeepsie, NY… The Dutchess County Division of Public Transit has announced it will be extending the time schedule on the LOOP’s bus Route B to allow for later evening service from Beacon to Poughkeepsie, Monday through Saturday starting this Thursday, June 20th.  This schedule adjustment will allow the Route B to run a similar evening schedule to Route A, which runs from Fishkill to Poughkeepsie.  It will also allow for Dutchess Stadium attendees to utilize public transit after baseball games.

County to Replace Culvert on Vassar Road Next Week

Poughkeepsie… The Dutchess County Department of Public Works has announced it will be replacing a pipe culvert on County Route 77 (Vassar Road) in the vicinity of Spring Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie. Weather permitting, the project is scheduled forJune 25, 2013 (or the next available night of favorable weather). Bipartisan Support for Comprehensive Analysis of Criminal Justice System

Industry Experts Validate Cost Savings Potential of New “Transition Center”

Poughkeepsie, NY… The Dutchess County Legislature hosted a “Committee of the Whole” meeting yesterday to hear a presentation from RicciGreene Associates, a nationally recognized planning and design firm specializing in criminal justice projects, contracted to  conduct a validation study of the Dutchess County Criminal Justice Council’s (CJC)Criminal Justice System Needs Assessment report.  RicciGreene Associates concurred with the underlying assumptions and analyses used in the CJC’s report and the recommendation for the construction of a new, larger jail facility to address the long term issue of housing out inmates.

County Offers Workers’ Comp Savings Opportunities to Local Municipalities

Poughkeepsie, NY… As part of continuing efforts to offer shared services, deliver greater efficiencies and overall reduce the cost of government, Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro is expanding the opportunity for Dutchess County municipalities and public agencies to participate in the County’s Self-insured Worker’s Compensation Plan as a way to reduce premium costs.   Yesterday afternoon, the Dutchess County Legislature’s Government Services & Administration Committee approved an amendment to Local of No. 5 of 1980 that originally created the County’s Self-Insured Worker’s Compensation Plan.  The amendment provides an operational overhaul of the Plan that recognizes the expanded functionality of the County’s Risk Management Division and adds greater efficiency to the Plan.

New County Initiative To Prevent Prescription Drug Abuse

Poughkeepsie, NY … In conjunction with National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 27th, the Dutchess County STOP-DWI Program has announced new prescription medication disposal drop boxes are now available at four locations throughout the county in addition to the one already established at the New York State Police Troop K Headquarters in Salt Point. These medication disposal sites offer residents places to anonymously dispose of unused and unwanted prescription medications and controlled substances.

Pawling Senior Friendship Center to Reopen

Poughkeepsie, NY … Local, regional and state health care and emergency response professionals came together today to conduct a table top training exercise on a draft “Alternate Care Site” plan designed to deal with a surge in patient volume in the local health care system that exceeds capacity in the event of a widespread or pandemic illness. Dutchess County’s “Rethinking Waste” Solid Waste Management Plan Adopted

Poughkeepsie, NY … Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro has signed the County Legislature’s resolution to adopt Dutchess County’s local solid waste management plan, Rethinking Waste. The County Legislature voted to adopt the plan last week at their April board meeting. Rethinking Waste is a ten-year plan focused on significantly increasing the amount of material recycled in Dutchess County in order to decrease the total amount of waste. The plan calls to almost triple the current recycling rate, increasing total recycling to nearly 60% by 2022.

Industry Experts to Validate Criminal Justice Needs Assessment Report Findings

Poughkeepsie, NY…   The Dutchess County Criminal Justice Council (CJC) has announced a contract has been awarded to RicciGreene Associates to perform a validation study of the Dutchess County Criminal Justice System Needs Assessment report finding.    The report was originally issued in September 2012, following a request from Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro for the CJC to review Dutchess County’s current inmate housing situation and provide comprehensive recommendations about the how the county should proceed in the future.

Dutchess County Under Red Flag Fire Warning

Poughkeepsie… Dutchess County Emergency Response Coordinator Dana Smith reminds all Dutchess County residents that all outdoor burning including burn barrels, brush piles and camp fires greater 3 feet high and 4 feet in length are currently banned in New York State.  Any fire that is allowed under the standard must be attended at all times and fully estinguished.   Dutchess County is currently under a “RED FLAG FIRE WARNING” from the National Weather Service due to heightened fire danger from strong winds and low humidity as well as recent dry conditions.

2013 Household Hazardous Materials Disposal and Electronics Recycling Events Begin This Saturday

Poughkeepsie… Spring is finally here and residents are cleaning out of the garage and basement of old cans of varnish, unused chemical fertilizers, pool chemicals and other hazardous materials.   It is also a good time to responsibly recycle old computer monitors, printers, mercury-containing thermometers, expired or unwanted medications and other potentially harmful materials.  The Dutchess County Resource Recovery Agency (DCRRA) will kick off the 2013 schedule of Household Hazardous Materials Disposal and Electronics

Public Input Sought for Waterfront Redevelopment Strategy

Poughkeepsie. . . City of Poughkeepsie Mayor John Tkazyik and Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro have announced the first of several Public Workshops to learn about the Waterfront Redevelopment Strategy and Rezoning Project in the City of Poughkeepsie.   The first workshop will be held Thursday, January 24th at 7:00 pm at the Cunneen-Hackett Theater located at 12 Vassar Street in the City of Poughkeepsie.    The public will have the opportunity to hear what is happening near the river, including 2013 plans for an elevator connection between the waterfront and the Walkway Over the Hudson, a new Upper Landing Park along the Fall Kill Creek, a proposed Gateway zoning district around the Parker Avenue entrance to the Walkway, and ongoing plans to improve Kaal Rock Point and Park.

County Department of Community and Family Services to Reduce Public Hours for Select Divisions Next Week

Poughkeepsie. . . Effective January 9th, the Dutchess County Department of Community and Family Services (DCFS), formerly known as the Department of Social Services, will begin a pilot project on Wednesdays, limiting intakes for Temporary Assistance, Food Stamps (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program or SNAP), Medicaid and Home Energy Assistance.  Staff in these divisions will work regular hours, focusing on completing required paperwork to ensure families and individuals receive the benefits they need, without the County incurring overtime costs. There will be no client interviews or meetings on Wednesdays for those divisions. This change is expected to save $100,000 in overtime costs annually.

Molinaro Announces New Four Year Agreement with CSEA Employee Union

County Phone System

Dutchess County Government VOIP phone system is still down for incoming calls due to issues with Verizon SIP Trunk Services stemming from Central Offices in NYC as a result of Hurricane Sandy. This problem is also impacting thousands of customers, from various telephone services carriers, throughout the Northeast.   County officials are working  with Verizon Management to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

  • Dutchess County Government phone lines are currently down.   County offices will be open today (Tuesday, 10/30)
  • Dutchess County 911 has handled nearly 1,000 calls in the past twenty four hours.   Call volume peaked between 7pm and 9pm on Monday, 10/29/2012.
  • Dutchess County Public Works crews have working to clear downed trees from county roadways.   There are reports of downed trees and power lines throughout the county.   Drivers are urged to use caution and plan for extra travel time.   If possible, remain off the roads to allow crews to work.

Dutchess County Emergency Operations Center Update

Poughkeepsie… Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro activated the Dutchess County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) this morning at 7:30am to monitor and respond to Hurricane Sandy.

Hurricane Sandy is a very large storm, estimated at 1,000 miles wide.    The Dutchess County area is under a Hazardous Weather Outlook, with high wind warning in effect now until 11am Tuesday morning.   Approximately 3 inches of rainfall are currently predicted.   A Flood Watch is currently in effect through late Tuesday night.   Tidal flooding is likely to occur along the Hudson River.   Hudson River water levels at Poughkeepsie are expected to rise above normal tide levels during periods of high tide.

Dutchess County’s 2013 Property Tax Cap Calculation

Poughkeepsie, NY…  Dutchess County Commissioner of Finance Pamela Barrack submitted Dutchess County’s 2013 property levy tax cap calculation to the New York State Comptroller’s Office today as required by the Property Tax Cap legislation passed last year by the State Legislature.      For 2013, the property tax levy growth limit for Dutchess County Government is projected to be nearly $2.4 million or 2.3%.

Molinaro Outlines Competitive Grant Funding for Municipalities, Non-Profits

Public Parking Lot Next to County Office Building Closed

Poughkeepsie… The Dutchess County Department of Public Works has announced the public parking lot located next to the Dutchess County Office Building on Market Street in Poughkeepsie is closed as work begins on the demolition of the structures at 28 and 44 Market Street. The parking lot will be closed for the balance of the year and is expected to reopen in January, 2013.

Dutchess Rail Trail Parking Lot at Diddell Road Under Construction

Poughkeepsie… The Dutchess County Department of Public Works has announced the Dutchess Rail Trail parking lot located at Diddell Road in the Town of Wappinger will be closed beginning on Monday, October 22nd for the construction of a paved parking area for trail users with 33 parking spaces, including 2 handicapped accessible spaces.  The work is expected to take approximately four weeks, with completion scheduled for late November.

Dutchess Budget Survey Results Now Available

Poughkeepsie, NY…  Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro asked county residents to share their thoughts and feedback to help with the development of the 2013 county budget and more than 2,200 residents responded.    Results of the Dutchess County Budget Survey, which was conducted this summer, have been compiled and are now available on the County’s website www.dutchessny.gov.  Residents from throughout the county, including a wide range of age and income groups, responded to the survey and expressed support for more than 70 optional services and programs provided by Dutchess County Government.  Residents indicated a willingness to pay a higher property tax rate to continue to support those services overall.  However, residents were clear in their desire to see increased efforts to consolidate/reduce duplicative services provided by various levels of government.

Poughkeepsie, NY…   Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro and Dutchess County Clerk Bradford Kendall have announced the selection of William P. Tatum III, M.A. to serve as Dutchess County Historian.    Mr. Tatum, who has most recently served at the Historical Society of Newburgh Bay and the Hudson Highlands, is an accomplished historian and heritage tourism expert and is experienced in development, fundraising and advocacy for public and private historic sites.   Dutchess County’s Historian position has been vacant since 2008.

County Condemns Nelson House Annex for Public Safety

Poughkeepsie… The Dutchess County Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced a portion of pedestrian sidewalk area in front of the three structures, including the former Nelson House Annex building, located at 28 and 44 Market Street in the City of Poughkeepsie, is closed to foot traffic due to the threat of falling debris. DPW has condemned the structures and recommended that they be demolished because the structures represent a safety hazard to those who walk or work in the vicinity of the structures due to the potential failure of parapets, coping, lintels and other exterior building components.   The Nelson House Annex has been vacant since 1996.

Dutchess County Evaluating Bus Service Expansion into City of Poughkeepsie

Poughkeepsie, NY…   Could there be a benefit for taxpayers if the Dutchess County LOOP Service were to expand into the City of Poughkeepsie and become the sole public bus operator in the City?   The Poughkeepsie-Dutchess County Transportation Council is working with a transportation consultant to find out.    Wendel Companies of Buffalo, New York will conduct a service analysis of the City of Poughkeepsie bus system to compare its services to those already provided by the County and recommend potential timetable and route adjustments to the existing LOOP bus routes to serve City residents perhaps as early as summer 2013.   This analysis is a component of County Executive Molinaro’s Public Transportation Strategic Review.

County to Continue to Revitalize It’s Bridges & Culverts

Poughkeepsie… The Dutchess County Department of Public Works (DCDPW) Highway Division will begin replacing the existing culvert C-20, which carries Hollow Road (County Route 14) over a tributary of the Little Wappinger Creek.  The existing eight foot (8’) diameter corrugated metal pipe is structurally deficient and will be replaced using a precast concrete box culvert.  Work is anticipated to begin by August 24, 2012 and is expected to be completed by October 30, 2012.  During construction Hollow Road will be closed at the vicinity of the culvert and a detour route will be posted.

Fast Team Initiatives Save County Time and Money

Poughkeepsie, NY…. Dutchess County Government continues to be aggressive in its efforts to find cost savings and improve efficiency in all areas of county government.    As he outlined in his State of the County Address, Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro formed the Fiscal Accountability and Strategy Team (FAST) to work with fiscal staff in county departments to find cost savings and efficiencies in county government within the limited resources available.    Two FAST initiatives – limiting contract originals and digitizing Account Payable invoices – are expected to save Dutchess County more than $110,000 annually.

Molinaro Seeks to Right-Size County Government for Future with Workforce Adjustment Incentive Program

Poughkeepsie, NY…. Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro met with county elected officials, department heads, and CSEA union representatives this morning to outline his “Workforce Adjustment Incentive Program,” a voluntary employee separation program designed to minimize the impact of layoffs while reducing operational expenses.   Dutchess County Government seeks to close a budget gap of up to $40 million in the development of the 2013 budget.  The program will offer eligible County employees an opportunity to apply for a one-time $20,000 payment by voluntarily leaving County service by November 30, 2012.

Young People Learn Key Financial and Computer Skills at Special County Workshops

Poughkeepsie….To help young people learn important skills needed to plan and budget for adult independence, the Dutchess County Department of Social Services (DSS) hosted a two and a half hour financial workshop in partnership with Bridgeway Federal Credit Union today (Monday, July 30th).   Thirty individuals, between the ages of 15-18 years old whose families receive Temporary Assistance, participated in the today’s workshop, part of a two-day program.

First Responders to Learn Aircraft Scene Safety Tonight at Dutchess County Airport

Dutchess County STOP- DWI Kickoffs Impaired Driving Enforcement Crackdown

Poughkeepsie… Designate a sober driver when celebrating this summer because local law enforcement countywide will be out in force throughout the summer holiday season to arrest impaired drivers. That was the message from Dutchess County Marcus J. Molinaro, local municipal and law officials and traffic safety advocates this morning at a Dutchess County STOP-DWI Program press conference to launch the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement crackdown, a multi-agency coordinated enforcement effort to enhance roadway safety efforts and prevent impaired driving injuries and fatalities in Dutchess County.

County Executive Molinaro Celebrates Grand Opening of ReCommunity Center Beacon

Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro joined with officials from the City of Beacon and the business community for the ceremonial grand opening event for ReCommunity Beacon, the state-of-the-art automated recycling facility located 508 Fishkill Avenue in Beacon.  ReCommunity invested $7.5 million to build and install state-of-the art sorting equipment in the 52,000 square foot building to process recyclable plastics, old newspapers, junk mail, magazines, office papers, cardboard, tin, aluminum and glass food and beverage containers.

County’s Critical Response Team Celebrates 10 Years of Services to Emergency First Responders

Poughkeepsie…Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro congratulates the Dutchess County Critical Incident Response Team on the celebration of its 10th anniversary.     Originally established in 2002, the Critical Incident Response Team is a highly trained group of peer volunteers who provide services to first responders to help them deal with the high levels of pressure and stress when faced with horrific circumstances at emergency scenes.   The Dutchess County CIRT is an all-volunteer team from various Dutchess County Fire, EMS, Police and 911 Dispatch services.

Dutchess County Solid Waste Coordinator meets with LaGrange Middle School Students about National AwardWinning Recycling Project

The fifth annual Lexus ECO Challenge is a national contest that encourages middle and high school students to develop and implement environmental programs that positively impact their communities. In a recent letter to Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) Chairman Jay Walder, AssemblymanMarc Molinaro (R,I,C-Red Hook) expressed his opposition to the agency’s plan to expand, train and house K-9 units as well as building a communications tower, shooting range, parking fields and a railroad siding in the Towns of East Fishkill and Beekman. The New York State Assembly’s Disability Awareness Day is an annual event in which Molinaro and his colleagues join together to celebrate the significant achievements of New Yorkers with disabilities, as well as those who advocate on behalf of the state’s disability community.           “It was an honor to speak to those in attendance and pay tribute to their hard work, commitment and strength.  As the parent of a child with a disability, I know firsthand, the struggles that so many New Yorkers and their families face,” said Molinaro. “The compassion and perseverance that we celebrate on Disability Awareness Day is truly inspiring.  I commend all those who are working every day to encourage acceptance, tolerance and understanding.  Every New Yorker deserves a life with dignity and we must do more for those with special needs and special abilities.” Over 40 organizations distributed information on programs, technology and services for people with disabilities. Posters from schools and artwork created by people with disabilities were on display. The Assembly took up a package of resolutions and legislation aimed at assisting New Yorkers with disabilities.
